Sailing Camps

Camp Piankatank 's prime location on the beautiful Piankatank River makes us the perfect location to learn to sail. Both boys and girls learn a lot in these windy weeks. Sailing camps have graduated levels beginning at a basic level in beginning camp learning on sidewinders and catamarans, all the way to advanced level where sailors sail our cabin sailboats. Every sailing week's highlight is the overnight sailing trip, spending the night on a cabin sailboat. Sailing campers attend worship services and Bible studies along with the rest of the camp. Spiritual principles are also taught within the sailing lessons and practices.

Beginning Sailing Camp (Boys week and Co-ed Week for 13-17 year olds)

Learn to Sail! During these weeks beginning sailors will be introduced to the Piankatank River on a sailboat. Campers will learn to rig and sail one and two person sailboats. The different parts of a sailboat, basic sailing knots, tacking, jibing, capsize recovery and boating safety will also be taught. These campers also attend daily worship services, Bible studies, and participate in team-building activities on our ropes course. No sailing or boating experience is required.

Intermediate Sailing Camp (Boys week and Co-ed Week for 13-17 year olds)

These sailors will learn how to rig and sail Sidewinders, catamarans, and other speedy sailboats as they cruise around Stamper s Bay at top speed! Worship, Bible studies, and a special service on the waterfront await these adventurers. A highlight of the week will be an introduction to the camp's cabin boats and an overnight sailing trip! Campers should have attended Beginning Sailing Camp, or already know how to tie basic sailing knots, and rig and sail small sailboats without assistance.

Advanced Sailing Camp (Boys week and Co-ed Week for 13-17 year olds)

This week is for boys with advanced sailing knowledge. Campers will learn to rig, sail, maneuver, navigate and anchor 22 - 26 foot-long cabin boats while sailing around the mouth of the Piankatank River .
